Body
WHEREAS, the U.S. Department of Justice has awarded the County the Smart Prosecution Initiative grant in the amount of $350,000.00 for use by the Prosecuting Attorney's Office; and,

WHEREAS, the Smart Prosecution Initiative is a federal program designed to bring a strategic approach to criminal justice operations by using innovative applications of analysis, technology, and evidence-based practices with the goal of improving performance and effectiveness while containing costs; and,

WHEREAS, California State University - Fresno is the grant's designated sub-award recipient and will serve as a research partner with the Prosecuting Attorney's Office to further the goals of the SMART Initiative; and,

WHEREAS, the County's portion of the grant will provide funding for two staff positions within the Prosecuting Attorney's Office to assist with a geographic-based prosecution pilot project in Kansas City's most violent areas; and,

WHEREAS, these positions will focus on existing and future crime, notably violent-crime and reduction efforts within the Jackson County Prosecutor's Office; and,
