Body
WHEREAS, the Santa-Cali-Gon Days Festival was first held in 1940 to celebrate and commemorate the unique heritage of the City of Independence as the starting point of the Santa Fe, Oregon, and California trails; and,

WHEREAS, with the advent of World War II, a second festival was not held until 1947 after the war's conclusion, and the festival did not become an annual event until the 1970s; and,

WHEREAS, the Santa-Cali-Gon Days festival, hosted by the Independence Chamber of Commerce, is celebrating its Golden Anniversary, September 2 - 5, 2022; and,

WHEREAS, the Santa-Cali-Gon Days festival is held each Labor Day weekend on the historic Independence Square and is one of the nation's oldest and largest free festivals; and,

WHEREAS, the Santa-Cali-Gon Days festival features concerts, entertainment, vendors of delicious food, handcrafted arts and crafts, and a world-class carnival; and,

WHEREAS, the festival annually provides fundraising opportunities for over fifty non-profit organizations who help make Santa-Cali-Gon Days a unique and attractive annual event; and,

WHEREAS, the Santa-Cali-Gon Days festival draws over 300,000 attendees and brings millions of dollars in economic impact to our community; now therefore,

BE IT RESOLVED by the County Legislature of Jackson County, Missouri, that the Legislature hereby recognizes the 50th Anniversary of the Santa-Cali-Gon Days Festival and the historical, economic, and community impact on the citizens of Jackson County, Missouri; and,
