Body
WHEREAS, for the last fourteen years, African-American students have been given the opportunity to demonstrate their knowledge as to their heritage through participation in local and state competitions in the Black History and Culture Brain Bowl in Tampa, Florida; and,

WHEREAS, one participant is Gabrielle Finley, a student at Booker T. Washington High School who, as a team member, competed with the Booker Taliaferro Washington Griots in bowl matches on March 19-21, 1999; and,

WHEREAS, Gabrielle and her teammates, Lakera C. Tompkins, Monica Woods, Paul Lovely, Tumeka Turner, Katherine Wright, and Jessica Veasley, took first place in this year's competition; and,

WHEREAS, leading Gabrielle and her teammates to this win were coaches Walter Gulley and Eric Scott; and,

WHEREAS, Gabrielle is to be highly commended for her outstanding achievement and for representing her school in this academic endeavor; and,

WHEREAS, Gabrielle is the daughter of County Legislator Ronald Finley; therefore,

BE IT RESOLVED by the County Legislature of Jackson County, Missouri, that the Legislature congratulates Gabrielle Finley upon her team's victory the 1998-99 Florida Educational Fund Black History and Culture Brain Bowl.

Effective Date: This Resolution shall be effective immediately upon its passage by a majority of the Legislature.
