Body
WHEREAS, Bernice J. Conley was born July 8, 1920, to Charles and Julia (Murray) Regan; and,

WHEREAS, she was a lifelong member of Redemptorist Parish and graduated from Redemptorist High School in 1938. She was an active member of the school's PTA from 1952 until 1973 and served as president of the association in 1958; and,

WHEREAS, in 1966 Bernice became the first women elected to a county-wide office in Jackson County when she was elected County Clerk, running as a member of the original "Committee for County Progress."; and,

WHEREAS, she was re-elected as County Clerk in 1970 and appointed as Clerk of the new County Legislature in 1973 when the new charter form of government became effective, serving in that office until her retirement in 1991; and,

WHEREAS, Bernice was selected County Clerk of the year in 1986 by the National Association of County Recorders and Clerks, and served on the association's board of directors for 24 years, with two years as Treasurer (1987-1989); and,

WHEREAS, Bernice was preceded in death by her husband of 47 years, Jack Conley; sisters and brother-in-law, Mary Gibbs and Helen and Leonard Fetters, sister-in-law, Edna Regan and brothers and sisters-in-law, James and Madeline Regan and John and Virginia Regan; and,

WHEREAS, Bernice is survived by her daughter, Carol, and son-in-law, Feliz Valdivia, two sons, Michael and John Conley, seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren, her brothers, twin Bernard "Buddy" Regan, and Joe and Teresa Regan, brothers-in-law Edward Gib...
