WHEREAS, each year the American Sons of Columbus honors a man of Italian descent who personifies characteristics which reflect a strong citizenship and pride and love for his heritage; and,
WHEREAS, the 1999 recipient of the Columbian of the Year award is Nick Allen, a man whose character notably displays an appreciation for his Italian heritage; and,
WHEREAS, after graduation from Paseo High School in 1953, Nick enlisted in the United States Navy; and,
WHEREAS, he then received a Bachelor's degree in business with a minor in finance from Central Missouri State College, where he achieved recognition for his academic and athletic skills; and,
WHEREAS, upon retirement in 1991 after thirty years of employment with Ford Motor Credit Company, Nick became one of the principal owners of Independence Lincoln-Mercury-Honda-Mazda, Heritage Motors of Odessa, Missouri, and Aristocrat Motors in Overland Park, Kansas; and,
WHEREAS, Nick and his wife of thirty-seven years, Jo Carol, have been blessed with three children and seven wonderful grandchildren; and,
WHEREAS, Nick was honored at a formal gala on October 10, 1999, at the Marriott-Downtown Hotel in Kansas City; now therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED by the County Legislators of Jackson County, Missouri, that the Legislators hereby congratulate Nick Allen upon his selection as "Columbian of the Year" for 1999 by Kansas City's American Sons of Columbus.
