A RESOLUTION expressing the intent of the Legislature that its meetings be telecast on local cable television public access channels.

Body
WHEREAS, the City of Kansas City has submitted a proposal to the County whereunder staff of the City and/or Time-Warner Cable would produce for televising on the City's local public access cable channel, the meetings of the Legislature, held both in Kansas City and Independence; and,
WHEREAS, the Legislature is interested in pursuing the arrangement proposed by the City, in order to more fully inform and educate the citizenry regarding legislative proceedings; and,
WHEREAS, for the same reasons, the Legislature is also interested in having its proceedings televised on public access cable channels in other cities within the County, such as Independence, Blue Springs, Lee's Summit, Grandview, and Raytown; now therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED by the County Legislature of Jackson County, Missouri, that it is the
intent of the Legislature that the County proceed with contracting with the City of Kansas City for the televising of the Legislature's meetings on the City's public access cable channel; and,
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that County staff are requested to meet with representatives of Time Warner Cable and the Cities of Independence, Blue Springs, Lee's Summit, Grandview, and Raytown for the purpose of negotiating contracts for the televising of legislative meetings on public access cable channels in these cities.

Effective Date: This Resolution shall be effective immediately upon its passage by a majority of the Legislature.
