WHEREAS, the National Association of Counties (NACo) was created in 1935 to give county officials a strong voice in the nation's capital; and,
WHEREAS, more than six decades later, NACo continues to ensure that the nation's 3,066 counties are heard and understood in Washington; and,
WHEREAS, NACo is a full-service organization, providing extensive services to its members including legislative, research, technical, public affairs, and enterprise services; and,
WHEREAS, NACo membership totals more than 2,000 counties, including Jackson County, representing over 80 percent of the nation's population; and
WHEREAS, the association works to improve public understanding of counties and acts as a liaison with other levels of government; and,
WHEREAS, NACo serves as a national advocate for counties, while providing them with resources to find innovative solutions to the challenges they face; and,
WHEREAS, the Legislature supports efforts to bring the National Association of Counties Annual Conference to Jackson County and Kansas City in either 2008 or 2009; therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED by the County Legislature of Jackson County, Missouri, that the Legislature expresses its full support of efforts to bring the National Association of Counties Annual Conference to Jackson County in 2008 or 2009.
Enacted and Approved
Effective Date: This Resolution shall be effective immediately upon its passage by a majority of the Legislature.
