Body
WHEREAS, Niles Home for Children is celebrating 120 years of rebuilding lives and renewing hope for families in the Jackson County community; and,
WHEREAS, the mission of Niles Home for Children is to "meet the mental health and educational needs of high-risk children and their families; empowering them to become confident contributing citizens;" and,
WHEREAS, the primary focus of Niles Home is directed towards children who have suffered emotional trauma as a result of abuse or neglect; and,
WHEREAS, Niles Home services a community compromised of 59.4% single family homes with 20.7% being children ages 5-17, and 98.8% of the population being African-Americans, with 21.9% of those families having female head of households; and,
WHEREAS, the celebration will be held on October 8, 2003, at the Downtown Marriott, from 12 noon until 1:30 pm, with keynote speaker Elson Floyd, PhD, President of the University of Missouri; and,
WHEREAS, the Legislature recognizes Nile Home for Children on the occasion of its 120th anniversary celebration; now therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED by the County Legislature of Jackson County, Missouri, that the Legislature hereby congratulates and commends Niles Home for Children, in celebration of 120 years of rebuilding lives and renewing hope for children and their families.
Enacted and Approved
Effective Date: This Resolution shall be effective immediately upon its passage by a majority of the Legislature.
