Body
WHEREAS, by Ordinance 3293, dated September 16, 2002, the Legislature did appropriate $77,750.00 and authorize a contract with the Eastern Jackson County Betterment Council to provide these funds to the council for the purpose of continuing the Kansas City Area Transportation Authority's (KCATA) weekday commuter express bus service between the cities of Lee's Summit/Raytown, Blue Springs, and Independence, and downtown Kansas City, Missouri, for the period ending January 31, 2003; and,

WHEREAS, this funding was intended to be a stop-gap measure to replace an expiring federal grant, to allow time for the cities, the KCATA, and Mid-America Regional Council (MARC) to identify replacement funding; and,

WHEREAS, MARC has identified and received a commitment for new federal grant funding that will cover all of the costs of the continuation of this service through December 31, 2003, except for $70,000.00; and,

WHEREAS, the County is willing to provide the final $70,000.00 needed for the service, only with the understanding that the County will provide no more than $50,000.00 for the continuation of this service in 2004, no more than $30,000.00 in 2005, and no funding at all thereafter; and,

WHEREAS, all funding specified in this Resolution, including that for 2003, is subject to appropriation in the County's then current annual budget; and,
