Body
WHEREAS, the theme of the 37th annual Freedom fund dinner is "The Race is On" and will highlight the years of struggle for NAACP as an organization with regard to voter rights as well as other issues experienced by people of color; and,

WHEREAS, the honorary chairs for the dinner are James "Jim" Wilson, Kansas City Missouri Board of Police Commissioner and his wife, Yvonne Starks Wilson, State Senator elect, 9th District Missouri; and,

WHEREAS, recognition will be paid to the following award recipients,

Carl R. Johnson Humanitarian Herman and Dorothy Johnson
(In Memoriam)

Lucile Bluford Special Achievement John W. Bluford

Velma Woodson Outstanding Leadership Ormer Rogers

Harold Holliday, Sr. Civil Rights Dr. Robert Farnsworth
and,

WHEREAS, the keynote speaker will be Betty Winston Baye, an editorial writer and columnist for The Courier-Journal in Louisville, Kentucky, who carries national recognition as a leader in the field of journalism; now therefore,

BE IT RESOLVED by the County Legislature of Jackson County, Missouri, that the Legislature acknowledges the 37th Annual Freedom Fund dinner sponsored by the Kansas City Missouri branch of the NAACP as an important and educational community event, extends sincere congratulations to the award recipients, and wishes the organization continued success in the future.

Effective Date: This Resolution shall be effective immediately upon its passage by a majority of the Legislature.
