Body
WHEREAS, Dr. William H. Clark, chief executive officer and past president of the Urban League of Greater Kansas City, died Thursday, July 26, 2001, at the age of 69; and,

WHEREAS, Dr. Clark lead the Urban League for more than 24 years, engaging people of all races and classes to work together for equality and justice; and,

WHEREAS, he was a minister in the African Methodist Episcopal Church, minister in residence of Kansas City Jazz, and chaplain for the Kansas City, Missouri Police Department; and,

WHEREAS, he received numerous awards, including Citizen of the Year from Omega Psi Phi, CEO of the Year from the National Urban League, Leadership Award and Project Equality, Race Relation Award from the National Conference, Bridge Builder Award from the Kansas City Globe, Three Hat Award from the United Minority Media, Leadership Award from Blacks in Management, Leadership Award from Gillis Center, 100 Most Influential from the Kansas City Globe, and Distinguished Service Award from the Ivanhoe Club; and,

WHEREAS, he served on many boards in the Kansas City area including, the Greater Kansas City Chamber of Commerce, Trinity Lutheran Hospital, Health Midwest, the Kansas City, Missouri School District Building Corporation, Midwest Research Institute, and Baker University; and,
WHEREAS, he is survived by his wife of more than 20 years, Doris, and one son, Curtis; and,

WHEREAS, in his own words, Dr. Clark expressed his dedication to equality and justice for all, "I am a strong advocate of affirmative action because there are still doors closed to minorities and women simply because of gender and race. Affirmative action is not a...
