WHEREAS, it was with great sorrow that family and friends learned of the death of Salvatore "Sam" LeVota; and,
WHEREAS, Sam was born January 12, 1916, to Italian immigrant parents; and,
WHEREAS, he attended Northeast Senior High School and graduated from Northeast Junior College with an Associate of Arts degree in 1933; and,
WHEREAS, from 1940 to 1971 he worked as the Superintendent of Gateway Sporting Goods and later worked for the K.C. Metropolitan YMCA and Fagan's Heating and Cooling; and,
WHEREAS, Sam served as a finance officer in World War II, where he was responsible for wages for enlisted soldiers and liberated prisoners of war; and,
WHEREAS, Sam served 45 years with the Campo-Manfre-Barbieri American Legion post and was active until his death; and,
WHEREAS, he received appreciation awards for service to his country from Presidents Richard Nixon and Gerald Ford; and,
WHEREAS, Sam was an active member in the Holy Cross Catholic Church where he not only received the Bishop's Recognition Award for outstanding work in the parish and diocese, but he also served as Parish Chairman of the United Catholic Appeal, Chairman of the St. Joseph Table Altar Group, lector at mass, member of the Knights of Columbus, member of the St. Vincent DePaul Society, and member of the school board; and,
WHEREAS, his community activities include fifty years of service to the Boy Scouts of America, the YMCA, and other organizations; and,
WHEREAS, Sam was preceded in death by his wif...
