Title

A RESOLUTION congratulating Marceline "Marcy" Orozco upon her retirement from Jackson County and commending her for forty-two years of dedicated service.

Body

WHEREAS, on August 19, 1959, Marceline "Marcy" Lemos was hired under County Clerk  Harry W. Gallagher and began working for Jackson County as an "extra employee" preparing real estate and personal property tax bills for the Collection Department; and,

 

 

WHEREAS, in January 1960, she became a permanent employee when she was promoted to assist with payroll for all Jackson County employees and preparing payments for Jackson County vendors; and,

 

WHEREAS, Marcy worked directly with County Counselor Lee Vertis Swinton maintaining  bookkeeping and payroll for Jackson County indigent accounts and, in 1960, she was promoted to the sole responsibility of payroll for the Parks Department; and,

 

WHEREAS, she initiated an organizational system for storage and safe-keeping of Jackson County employee W2 forms from 1943 through 1973; and,

 

WHEREAS, Bernice Conley who was elected County Clerk in 1967 recognized Marcy's potential and developed a procedure whereby during her absence Marcy would step in and carry out the responsibilities of the office, including preparing the Railroads and Utilities State Evaluation; and,

 

WHEREAS, her current duties under Clerk of the County Legislature, Mary Jo Brogoto include distributed weekly legislative agendas and journals and other new projects; and,

 

WHEREAS, Marcy was quite very involved in political activities and had the opportunity to meet President Harry S Truman soon after starting her employment with Jackson County; and,

 

WHEREAS, she has been an active member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Redemptorist Fathers Church in Kansas City and served as a Cub Scout den mother for her nephew; and,

 

WHEREAS, on August 14, 1999, Marcy received her 40 year service pin from Victor Callahan, Chairman of the Jackson County Legislature; and.

 

WHEREAS, comments from Marcy's coworkers include: "very conscientious, detail-oriented worker, reliable, faithful to her husband and loyal to her family and friends;" and,

 

WHEREAS, another employee in the County Counselor's office who has know Marcy for 22 years described Marcy as "competent, follows through, meets deadlines, very conscientious and dedicated," and indicated she was fond of Marcy's saying, "I love a challenge.  I love my job;" and,

 

WHEREAS, on March 23, 1985, Marceline Lemos married Victor Orozco, Sr., who worked for the Jackson County Parks Department from August 3, 1984, until his retirement on February 19, 1993; and,

 

WHEREAS, Victor and Marcy have four adult sons, Vic, Stephen, Daniel and David, and  Marcy has two brothers, Julian and Valentine, and one sister, Mary; and,

 

WHEREAS, it is also worth noting that Marcy Orozco commuted to work all these years on the Metro bus, through snow, sleet, whatever the weather; now therefore,

 

BE IT RESOLVED by the County Legislature of Jackson County, Missouri, that the Legislature commends Marceline "Marcy" Orozco for forty-two years of dedicated service to the citizens of Jackson County and wishes her well upon her retirement.

 

Enacted and Approved

Effective Date:  This Resolution shall be effective immediately upon its passage by a majority of the Legislature.
