IN THE COUNTY LEGISLATURE OF JACKSON COUNTY, MISSOURI Title A RESOLUTION congratulating the Booker Taliaferro Washington Griots upon winning the 1998-99 Florida Educational Fund Black History and Culture Brain Bowl. Intro RESOLUTION # 12628, March 29, 1999 INTRODUCED BY Ronald E. Finley, County Legislator Body WHEREAS, the Florida Educational Fund commits itself to programs that reinforce, direct, and inspire education for African-Americans; and, WHEREAS, one of such programs is the Black History and Culture Brain Bowl which educates African-American youth about their contributions and roles through participating in local and state competitions; and, WHEREAS, the 14th annual Black History and Culture Brain Bowl was held in Tampa, Florida on March 19-21, 1999; and, WHEREAS, after winning a local competition, the Booker Taliaferro Washington Griots participated in statewide bowl competition under the guiding influence of coaches Walter Gulley and Eric Scott; and, WHEREAS, members of the winning team, sponsored by Booker T. Washington High School, were Lakera C. Tompkins, Monica Woods, Paul Lovely, Tumeka Turner, Gabrielle Finley, Katherine Wright, and Jessica Veasley; and, WHEREAS, the highest of praise goes out to this group of young people who have dedicated themselves to learning about their heritage, and demonstrated their knowledge through competition; therefore, BE IT RESOLVED by the County Legislature of Jackson County, Missouri, that the Legislature congratulates the Booker Taliaferro Washington Griots upon winning the 1998-99 Florida Educational Fund Black History and Culture Brain Bowl. Attorney Effective Date: This Resolution shall be effective immediately upon its passage by a majority of the Legislature.
