A RESOLUTION expressing the sympathy of the Legislature to the family and friends of Booker T. Wright, Jr., upon the occasion of his untimely death.

Body
WHEREAS, the members of the Legislature extends their deepest sympathy to family and friends of Booker T. Wright, who departed this life on March 1, 2002, at Baptist Medical Center; and,
WHEREAS, Mr. Wright was born in Kansas City, Missouri, on July 28, 1947, one of three children born to the union of Thelma and Booker T. Wright, Sr; and,
WHEREAS, he was a life-long resident of Kansas City, attended W. W. Yates Elementary School, and graduated from Manual High School; and,
WHEREAS, Mr. Wright was an advocate for consumers of mental health services and other disenfranchised persons; and,
WHEREAS, he served on the Wyandotte County Mental Health Services Advisory Board and with several other neighborhood advisory boards and advocacy groups; and,
WHEREAS, Mr. Wright served on various committees of Freedom Incorporated and as a freedom activist; and,
WHEREAS, he lobbied against utility companies charging excessive utility rates; and,
WHEREAS, Mr. Wright was interviewed many times by the media - appearing on local television as well as in the newspaper; and,
WHEREAS, he attended worship services at the Boone Tabernacle Church of God in Christ; and,
WHEREAS, a memorial service was held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, March 15, 2002 at New Prospect Center, 2600 E. 12th Street, with Reverend E.E. Washington, Sr., officiating; and,
WHEREAS, Mr. Wright is survived by his brother Eddie J. Wright of Kansas City, Missouri, one aunt, Frances Wright of Kansas City, Kansas, two nieces, Teresa Howard and Deborah Jackson, both of Kansas City, three nephews, Douglas Howard of Denver Colorado, and Gregory Howard and Clifton Howard of Kansas City, and a host of other relatives and friends; now therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED by the County Legislature of Jackson County, Missouri, that the Legislature hereby extends its deepest sympathy to family and friends of Booker T. Wright, Jr., upon the occasion of his untimely death.
Enacted and Approved
Effective Date: This Resolution shall be effective immediately upon its passage by a majority of the Legislature.
