WHEREAS, the members of the Legislature, along with Cynthia Clark Campbell, Roger James Davis, Rafaela Garcia, Robert M. Hernandez, Rosemary S. Lowe, Karen Payne, and Barbara A. Salva, Commissioners of the Jackson County Commission on Human Relations and Citizens Complaints (HRCC), are deeply saddened to learn of the death of Commissioner Maynard Eugene Harvey, Sr.; and,
WHEREAS, Maynard was a lifelong resident of Kansas City, Missouri, having attended W. W. Yates Elementary and R.T. Coles and Lincoln High Schools, as well as having received further education at the National Office Product Association Institute, Chicago, IL, and Kansas City Business College; and,
WHEREAS, Maynard began a sales career with The Kansas City Call newspaper and in April 1952 he began work with Gordon Rogers Company as a delivery person, clerk and sales representative, eventually becoming owner and president in February 1980, thus deserving recognition as the first African American office supplier in the downtown Kansas City area; and,
WHEREAS, Maynard enjoyed a life long commitment to the Metropolitan Missionary Baptist Church, beginning at the age of eight, and through the years served the church in many leadership capacities such as deacon, President of Usher Board #2, Finance Committee, Brotherhood Ministry, Publicity Chairman, Church Radio Announcer, Church Administrator and Assistant to Pastor Wallace S. Hartsfield; and,
WHEREAS, he also served the community in a multitude of roles including Master of Blue Valley Lodge #64, 32nd Degree Mason, Kansas City Consistory #7 member, Associate Patron - Queen of Sheba Chapter #19 O.E.S., Worthy Patron - Queen of Sheba Chapter, Advisory Board Urban League, Advisory Board Lincoln/Coles Council of Parents and Teachers, NAACP Life Member as well as business affiliations with the National Office Products Association, Kansas City Office Products Association, Board of Directors Better Business Bureau of Kansas City, National Association of Marketing Developers, and Executive Trade Association; and,
WHEREAS, he was a beloved father, husband, and friend; and,
WHEREAS, Maynard is survived by his wife of 52 years, Mable (Newman) Harvey, son Maynard, Jr., son Duane, daughter Deidre, and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends; and,
WHEREAS, Maynard will be greatly missed by those who knew and loved him; therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED by the County Legislature of Jackson County, Missouri, that the Legislature hereby extends its deepest sympathy to family and friends of Maynard Eugene Harvey, Sr., upon the occasion of his untimely death.

Effective Date: This Resolution shall be effective immediately upon its passage by a majority of the Legislature.
