A RESOLUTION congratulating Emanuel Newton Sr. upon his appointment as Bishop of the Western Missouri Church of God in Christ.

Body
WHEREAS, on August 14, 1999, Emanuel Newton Sr. was officially installed as presiding prelate of the Missouri Western Ecclesiastical Jurisdiction of the Church of God in Christ; and,
WHEREAS, Bishop Newton, a man of great spiritual strength and dedication, received a foundation for his ministry early in life; and,
WHEREAS, Reverend Newton became widely known as a young minister and later a travelling evangelist, and has committed his life to serving God; and,
WHEREAS, on October 3,1965, Bishop Newton founded and pastored the Christian Tabernacle Church of God in Christ in Kansas City, Jackson County, MO; and,
WHEREAS, prior to his appointment as presiding prelate, Bishop Newton served the national church as president of the National Pastors and Elders Council, executive board member of the General Assembly, and board member of the National Election Committee; and,
WHEREAS, following a week-long convocation, installation ceremonies for Bishop Newton were held on August 14 at the Colonial Presbyterian Church, followed by a banquet at the Hyatt Regency Crown Center Hotel; and,
WHEREAS, Bishop Newton and his wife, Sarah, have been happily married for forty years and have been blessed with six children and twelve grandchildren; now therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED by the County Legislature of Jackson County, Missouri, that the Legislature congratulates Emanuel Newton Sr. upon his appointment as Bishop of the Missouri Western Ecclesiastical Jurisdiction of the Church of God in Christ.

Effective Date: This Resolution shall be effective immediately upon its passage by a majority of the Legislature.
