IN THE COUNTY LEGISLATURE OF JACKSON COUNTY, MISSOURI Title A RESOLUTION congratulating Judge John Moran on his eleven years as a Jackson County Missouri Circuit Judge, and wishing him well on his retirement. Intro RESOLUTION #12852, August 16, 1999 INTRODUCED BY Victor E. Callahan, Lisa White Hardwick, Fred Arbanas, Scott Burnett, Ronald E. Finley, Dennis Waits, Dan Tarwater, Terry Young, and Bob Spence, County Legislators Body WHEREAS, John Moran was born November 23, 1929, in Detroit, Michigan, the oldest of eight children; and, WHEREAS, Judge Moran and his family later moved to Kansas City where he graduated from DeLaSalle Military Academy in 1946; and, WHEREAS, prior to his legal career, Judge Moran served two tours of duty in the United States Army from 1946 to 1948 and from 1950 to 1952; and, WHEREAS, Judge Moran received his undergraduate degree from Rockhurst College in 1953, studied at Georgetown University's Graduate School of Foreign Service in Washington, D.C. for one year, and received his J.D. degree from the University of Missouri-Kansas City in 1957; and, WHEREAS, while obtaining his law degree, Judge Moran served as a clerk in the firm of Kuraner, Freeman and Oberlander, and after receiving his J.D. degree, joined the firm as an associate where he remained until 1961; and, WHEREAS, Judge Moran then became a partner in the firm of Mason, Gant, Gepford, and Moran which, in 1974, merged with the office of Jolly, Walsh and Gordon, where he practiced until 1985; and, WHEREAS, Judge Moran then became a sole practitioner of general law until his appointment to the 16th Judicial Circuit bench in Jackson County on May 13, 1988; and, WHEREAS, Judge Moran is currently a member of the American Bar Association, American Trial Lawyers' Association, Missouri Association of Trial Lawyers, Lawyers' Association of Kansas City, and the Kansas City Metropolitan Bar Association; and, WHEREAS, prior to his appointment to the bench, Judge Moran served as vice-chairman of the Family Law Committee of the Kansas City Metropolitan Bar Association, and the director/treasurer of the Jackson County Bar Library Association, Inc.; and, WHEREAS, Judge Moran has established a reputation for fairness in the courtroom, and is known for his intelligence, keen eye for detail, and deep appreciation of well prepared lawyers; and, WHEREAS, Judge Moran has distinguished himself through his unparalleled service to the citizens of Jackson County, Missouri as a circuit court judge; and, WHEREAS, upon his retirement from the bench on September 30, 1999, Judge Moran plans to spend more time with his family and pursue his hobbies, including golfing, gardening, farming, traveling, and reading; now therefore, BE IT RESOLVED by the County Legislature of Jackson County, Missouri, that the Legislature congratulates Judge John Moran on his eleven years as a Jackson County Circuit Judge, and wishes him success and satisfaction in all of his future endeavors. Attorney Effective Date: This Resolution shall be effective immediately upon its passage by a majority of the Legislature.
