A RESOLUTION recognizing the sacrifice and heroism of Corporal Pat Tillman and expressing the sympathy of the Legislature to the families and friends of Pat Tillman and others who have selflessly given their lives in order to protect and defend our country.

WHEREAS, the members of the Legislature extend their deepest sympathy to the families and friends of Corporal Pat Tillman and others who have departed this life in defense of our country; and,
WHEREAS, in a honorable act of patriotism after the events of September 11, 2001, National Football League player Pat Tillman abandoned his multimillion-dollar contract to join the ranks of the elite U. S. Army Rangers; and,
WHEREAS, like many others, Corporal Tillman lost his life while fighting terrorism and is an appropriate public figure to symbolize the valiant efforts and ultimate sacrifices that have been and are being made by our military forces throughout the world; and,
WHEREAS, it is essential that our military forces are paid proper respect as they perform their duties in extreme and difficult conditions with an unfailing commitment and dedication to the preservation of the American way of life, despite the hardships and increased possibility of loss of life faced each day by our soldiers and their families; now therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED by the County Legislature of Jackson County, Missouri, that the Legislature hereby extends sincere appreciation for the eternal patriotism displayed by Corporal Pat Tillman and others as they fought to protect and defend our country and extends its deepest sympathy to family and friends upon the occasion of their untimely deaths.

Effective Date: This Resolution shall be effective immediately upon its passage by a majority of the Legislature.
