Body
WHEREAS, the Legislature was alarmed to learn of the recent death of a young Jackson County resident, allegedly at the hands of bounty hunters who were attempting to take someone else into custody; and,
WHEREAS, the Legislature is aware that bonding agents and bounty hunters operating in Jackson County are largely unregulated by the state, city, and county governments; and,
WHEREAS, the Legislature believes that appropriate regulation might well prevent a similar tragedy from occurring in the future, and requests the County Counselor to advise the Legislature to research and report on the scope of such regulation that would be legally permissible; now therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED by the County Legislature of Jackson County, Missouri, that the Legislature hereby requests the County Counselor to research and report to the Legislature on the scope of the County's ability to regulate bonding agents and bounty hunters doing business in Jackson County.
Effective Date: This Resolution shall be effective immediately upon its passage by a majority of the Legislature.
