A RESOLUTION commending Nick Arello for his quick, heroic action in assisting the Kansas City Missouri Police Department in the apprehension of a suspected bank robber on January 18, 2002.

                                                               and Bob Spence, County Legislators

 

 

Body

WHEREAS, on January 18, 2002, at approximately 5:10 p.m., Department of Corrections training supervisor Nick Arello responded quickly to a dangerous situation and  assisted the Kansas City Missouri Police Department with apprehending a suspected bank robber; and,

 

WHEREAS, upon entering the US Bank branch office at Red Bridge and Holmes, Nick was informed by a bank employee that the bank had just been robbed; and,

 

WHEREAS, the employee pointed to the suspect who was walking away from the bank; and,

 

WHEREAS, Nick instinctively responded to the situation, which led to a car chase and a brief struggle with the suspect before he broke loose from Nick's hold on him; and,

 

WHEREAS, Nick and three other bystanders, Kurt Whirley, John Dawson and David Rice gave chase, caught up with the suspect, and held him down until police arrived; and,

WHEREAS, Nick recovered the stolen money from the suspect and returned it to the bank; and,

 

WHEREAS, Nick is a hero by any standard and deserves the highest praise and recognition for this heroic act; and,

 

WHEREAS, he received a letter of appreciation from the Kansas City, Missouri Police Department which recognized his courageous act on that day; and,

 

WHEREAS, Nick will also receive formal recognition from the police department during the  Board of Police Commissioners' meeting on March 26, 2002, at 9:00 a.m., in the boardroom on the 6th Floor of Police Headquarters, 1125 Locust, Kansas City, Missouri; now therefore,

 

BE IT RESOLVED by the County Legislature of Jackson County, Missouri, that the Legislature commends Nick Arello for his quick, heroic action in assisting the Kansas City Missouri Police Department in the apprehension of a suspected bank robber.

 

Enacted and Approved

Effective Date:  This Resolution shall be effective immediately upon its passage by a majority of the Legislature.
