Body

WHEREAS, United Inner City Services will erect a new St. Mark's Early Child Care Center adjacent to St. Mark's Presbyterian Church in an area formerly dominated by the high rise public housing structures of Wayne Miner; and,

 

WHEREAS, St. Mark's has for many years provided quality day care, community development, day camps, youth social and recreational services, emergency assistance, employment services, senior adult services, and drug awareness and prevention programs for inner city youth and their families, and,

 

WHEREAS, the history of St. Mark's Church dates back to 1973, and over these past 30 years, under the direction of the Reverend Sam Mann, St. Mark's has proven its commitment to meeting the spiritual, social, and economic needs of the inner city; and,

 

WHEREAS, after twenty-six years in the basement of the church, the early child care center will emerge from its present, limited space, to a new facility, offering unlimited possibilities to children and their families; and,

 

WHEREAS, the new facility will have the capacity to serve125 children and provide pre-school and after-school programming for infants, toddlers, and pre-school aged children, with non-traditional hours of service; and,

 

WHEREAS, the new St. Mark's Early Child Care Center is designed to function as a "living" example of child development, fostering individual identity and growth through key experiences guided by history, community, and cultural arts; and,

 

WHEREAS, respect and admiration go out to United Inner City Services-St. Marks for many years of providing the highest level of quality child care to Jackson County families; now therefore,

 

BE IT RESOLVED by the County Legislature of Jackson County, Missouri, that the Legislature hereby commends the congregation of St. Mark's Church, the Reverend Sam Mann and  United Inner City Services upon the announcement of the opening of a new St. Mark's Early Child Care Center.

 

 

Enacted and Approved

Effective Date:  This Resolution shall be effective immediately upon its passage by a majority of the Legislature.
