Body
WHEREAS, the Jackson County Board of Equalization (BOE) has handled an unprecedented number of taxpayer appeals since July of 2023; and,
WHEREAS, traditionally the BOE appeals hearing season lasts two months or less, but this increase in appeals has led to a significantly longer BOE hearing season; and,
WHEREAS, the increased public awareness and media attention regarding the 2023 assessment and BOE hearings has led to increased workloads and pressure on the permanent members of the BOE; and,
WHEREAS, the BOE has handled each taxpayer appeal with commendable levels of professionalism and neutrality; and,
WHEREAS, this retention stipend is intended to recognize the additional work that has been and continues to be necessary for the appointed permanent members of the BOE serving from August of 2023 through April 1, 2024; and,
WHEREAS, this retention stipend will equal $2,000.00 per month during which the BOE is in session an average of more than three (3) days per week; now therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED that the Director of Finance and Purchasing be and hereby is authorized to issue checks to the permanent members of the BOE in the total amount of $16,000.00.

Effective Date: This Resolution shall be effective immediately upon its passage by a majority of the Legislature.
