NEW BUSINESS
Tony Miller, County Legislator, met with the Children’s Services Fund Board.
He is excited to report the Children’s Services Fund Board is preparing for
its renewal. They hope to increase their funding capacity and he supports
renewal of this fund. The Children’s Services Fund has helped a number of
children with housing, mental health assistance, and family support. He will
be working with the County Counselor’s Office on the ballot language and
hopes to have legislation introduced in time to place the question on the
November ballot.
Dan Tarwater III, County Legislator, asked if the Children’s Services Fund
needs to be renewed this year. Mr. Miller explained that as is the case with
the COMBAT sales tax, it is best to have a buffer in case the sales tax does
not get renewed in this cycle.
Jeanie Lauer, County Legislator, said the State of Missouri has a $10
million grant to be used by county jail systems. This grant will require
matching funds. Crissy Wooderson, Legislative Auditor, will take the lead on
completing the grant submission.
Jalen Anderson, County Legislator, said he appreciates Jeanie Lauer’s
work on this issue. As to the renewal of the Children’s Services Fund, he
said it is crucial to our community. The public meeting on the renewal was
standing room only. They hope to increase the tax to 1/4 cents from 1/8
cents, aligning the sales tax with what the state allows and at the same rate
as used in other counties. This stable program is crucial to the families in
our community, especially given our current challenges. This fund goes
beyond politics. Mr. Anderson said he is proud of the response and the
team at the Children's Services Fund.
Charlie Franklin, County Legislator, recognized Theresa Cass Galvin’s
granddaughter, McKinley on the occasion of her 9th birthday on Friday.
