INTRODUCED BY Manuel Abarca IV, Jalen Anderson, Donna Peyton, Venessa Huskey, Charlie Franklin, Sean E. Smith, Jeanie Lauer, Megan L. Marshall and DaRon McGee, County Legislators

Body
WHEREAS, Indigenous People's Day is an opportunity to recognize and honor the rich history, cultural heritage, and significant contributions of Native Peoples to our nation and community; and,

WHEREAS, Indigenous communities have been the stewards of the land and its resources for generations, preserving traditions, languages, and knowledge that continue to enrich our society; and,

WHEREAS, the Kansas City Indian Center has been an advocate and support system for Native peoples in the region, providing crucial resources, cultural preservation programs, and educational initiatives to uplift and empower the local Indigenous community; and,

WHEREAS, the Kansas City Indian Center's activism, advocacy and community services have made a lasting impact, helping to create a more inclusive and equitable environment for all indigenous peoples living in the Kansas City area; and,
WHEREAS, Jackson County acknowledges the importance of respecting and valuing the diverse indigenous cultures and the ongoing efforts to protect and preserve the rights of Native communities; and,

WHEREAS, that the Jackson County Legislature officially recognizes October 14, 2024, as Indigenous People's Day in Jackson County as we celebrate the resilience contributions, enduring legacy of Native communities, and expressing our continued support for organizations like the Kansas City Indian Center, which advocate for and serve the Indigenous people of our region; now therefore,
