Body
WHEREAS, Black History Month is observed annually in the United States to celebrate the rich history, culture, and contributions of African Americans to our nation; and,

WHEREAS, this year's theme is "African Americans and the Arts," explores the key influence African Americans have had in the fields of visual and performing arts, literature, fashion, folklore, language, film, music, architecture, culinary arts and other forms of cultural expression; and,

WHEREAS, African Americans have faced numerous challenges throughout history but have always risen to the occasion with strength, and resilience, inspiring generations to come; and,

WHEREAS, through determination, hard work, and perseverance, African Americans have made valuable and lasting contributions to Jackson County, and our region, achieving exceptional success in all aspects of society including business, education, politics, science, athletics, and the arts; and,

WHEREAS, Black art has been a powerful agent of change and social uplift throughout our nation's history; and,

WHEREAS, creative expression has had a pivotal role in opening new dialogues, challenging us to examine hard truths, and inspiring us to work toward something better; now therefore,

BE IT RESOLVED by the Legislature of Jackson County, Missouri, that the Legislature does hereby recognize and celebrate the theme of "African Americans and the Arts" for Black History Month 2024 and acknowledges the significant contributions and sacrifices of African Americans in their pursuit of equality, l...
