Title
A RESOLUTION expressing the intent of the Legislature to request that the Board of Equalization extend the appeals deadline for real property valuation to allow taxpayers adequate time to file their appeals and to allow time for the taxing jurisdictions to consider rolling back their respective levies.

Intro
RESOLUTION NO. 21334, July 10, 2023

INTRODUCED BY Manuel Abarca IV, County Legislator

Body
WHEREAS, in view of public outcry regarding the increase in real property valuations of parcels in Jackson County; and,

WHEREAS, the current Board of Equalization (BOE) appeal of valuation deadline is July 10, 2023.

WHEREAS, if the current BOE appeals deadline was extended no more than thirty days, this would not negatively impact the taxing jurisdictions, and would give taxing jurisdictions more time to budget and consider rolling back tax levies and would allow taxpayers adequate time to file their valuation appeals; and,

WHEREAS, it is the intent of the Legislature to encourage the BOE to extend their appeals deadline of July 10, 2023 an additional thirty days, to August 4, 2023, to give adequate time for appeals to be filed by taxpayers and for taxing jurisdictions to budget and to consider rolling back tax levies; now therefore,

BE IT RESOLVED by the County Legislature of Jackson County, Missouri, that the Legislature does hereby express its intent that the Board of Equalization grant an extension of thirty days for the appeals process.
