INTRODUCED BY Manuel Abarca IV, County Legislator

WHEREAS, the demonstrators who protested on June 28, 1969, following an unjust law enforcement raid at the Stonewall Inn, an LGBTQ+ club in New York City, are pioneers of the LGBTQ+ movement for equality; and,
WHEREAS, the first Pride march in New York City was held on June 28, 1970, on the one-year anniversary of the Stonewall Uprising; and,
WHEREAS, the LGBTQ+ community continues to face challenges, intense discrimination, and the denial of basic human rights in various aspects of life, including employment, housing, healthcare, and education; and,
WHEREAS, state legislatures across the country have introduced and passed harmful legislation directly targeting LGBTQ+ youth, particularly transgender youth, and their ability to participate in athletic activities and obtain access to lifesaving healthcare; and,
WHEREAS, members of the LGBTQ+ community have been targeted in acts of mass violence; and,
WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that Jackson County formally recognize and support Pride Month as an opportunity to celebrate and affirm the LGBTQ+ community and advocate for equal rights and protections; now therefore,
