RESOLUTION NO. 21135, December 12, 2022

 

INTRODUCED BY Charlie Franklin, County Legislator

 

 

Body

 WHEREAS, Ronald E. Finley will be leaving his position as Jackson County Legislator representing the Second District on December 31, 2022, and it is appropriate that on the occasion of his final meeting, the Legislature should honor and recognize his dedicated service to the citizens of Jackson County; and,

 

WHEREAS, Ron was elected to his current term as Legislator in 2018 after previously serving two four-year terms on the Legislature from 1999 through 2006; and,

 

WHEREAS, prior to his service on the County Legislature, Ron served as a Kansas City Councilman from 1991 through 1998; and,

 

WHEREAS, in 1975 Ron received a juris doctor degree from the University of Missouri - Kansas City School of Law, where he went on to receive a Master of Laws degree in 1984; and,

 

WHEREAS, Ron served as the first Affirmative Action Director of the Oregon State Bar Association, as law clerk for the Missouri State Public Defender’s Office, as an attorney with the Legal Aid Society of Western Missouri, and as law clerk for Judge Lewis B. Clymer in the Jackson County Circuit Court; and,

 

WHEREAS, from 1980 until 2014, Ron practiced law as a solo practitioner while also serving as an assistant prosecutor in the Kansas City Municipal Court from 1980 until 1989; and,

 

WHEREAS, in 2006, Ron served as Chief of Staff to Missouri State Senator Yvonne Wilson and, upon her retirement in 2010, Ron accepted an appointment to the Missouri Department of Labor and Industrial Relations as an Appeals Referee, where he served until 2013; and,

 

WHEREAS, throughout his numerous years of public service Ron has received many awards and recognitions, including the Judge Lewis Clymer Award for Outstanding Service to the Legal Profession presented by the Jackson County Bar Association; and,

 

WHEREAS, Ron’s family, including his daughters Jeanine, Gabrielle, and Mirandah, and his six grandsons, all join in honoring Ron for his service to Jackson County; now therefore,

 

BE IT RESOLVED by the County Legislature of Jackson County, Missouri, that the Legislature hereby recognizes Ronald E. Finley for his many years of dedicated service to the citizens of Jackson County and extends best wishes for all of his future endeavors.

 

Enacted and Approved

Effective Date:  This Resolution shall be effective immediately upon its passage by a majority of the Legislature.
