A RESOLUTION honoring Crystal Williams for her twelve years of dedicated service as Jackson County Legislator representing the Second District At-Large.

RESOLUTION NO. 21132, December 12, 2022

 

INTRODUCED BY Charlie Franklin, County Legislator

 

 

Body

 WHEREAS, Crystal Williams will be leaving her position as Jackson County Legislator representing the Second District At-Large on December 31, 2022, and it is appropriate that on the occasion of her final meeting, the Legislature should honor and recognize her dedicated service to the citizens of Jackson County; and,

 

WHEREAS, Crystal was first elected to the Jackson County Legislature in 2010, was re-elected in 2014 and 2018, and is known for her passionate advocacy for healthcare and women’s and children’s issues; and,

 

WHEREAS, in 2016, Crystal was elected by her colleagues as the first woman to be Chair of the Jackson County Legislature; and,

 

WHEREAS, Crystal demonstrated remarkable tenacity and leadership as a sponsor of legislation key to breaking the cycle of inequality, including the Stop Violence Against Women Act, Homeless Services Coalition of Greater Kansas City, Missouri Medicaid expansion,  MBE/WBE Program, Rock Island Rail Corridor, increase in minimum wage, Prescription Drug Monitoring Program, Community Children’s Services Fund, Tobacco 21, Payday Loan Clusters, Jackson County’s commitment to welcome all persons, support of goals in the Paris Climate Agreement, Jackson County Ethics Code, and support of abortion and other reproductive rights; and,

 

WHEREAS, Crystal is a graduate of Columbia College with a Bachelor of Arts degree in history and government; and,

 

WHEREAS, Crystal, after a breast cancer diagnosis in March 2015, became a proponent of access to cancer screening for all; and,

 

WHEREAS, Crystal enjoys cooking, hosting family and friends, and even took tap dancing lessons; and,

 

WHEREAS, Crystal’s husband Richard Spiedel, their son Will Speidel, her parents Albert and Martha Sue Williams, her brother Hugh Williams, and her in-laws Linda and Richard Speidel, all join in honoring Crystal for her service to Jackson County; now therefore,

 

BE IT RESOLVED by the County Legislature of Jackson County, Missouri, that the Legislature hereby recognizes Crystal Williams for her twelve years of dedicated service as Jackson County Legislator representing the Second District At-Large and extends best wishes for all of her future endeavors.

 

Enacted and Approved

Effective Date:  This Resolution shall be effective immediately upon its passage by a majority of the Legislature.
