Body
WHEREAS, the Legislature believes it to be appropriate to provide a modest increase to the pension benefits earned by and paid to the County's sworn peace officers in the Sheriff's Office and Parks + Rec Department; and,

WHEREAS, a study dated September 16, 2022, authorized by Cheiron, the Jackson County Pension Plan Board of Trustees' retained actuary, determined that the benefits increase enacted in this Ordinance complies with the limitations imposed by section 105.684, RSMo, the Missouri law that governs benefits increases in local government pension plans; and,

WHEREAS, the proposed benefits increase is in the best interest of the health, welfare, and safety of the citizens of Jackson County; now therefore,


BE IT ORDAINED by the Legislature of Jackson County, Missouri, as follows:


Section A. Enacting Clause. Section 1512., Jackson County Code, 1984, is hereby repealed, and one new subsection and one new section enacted in lieu thereof, to be known as sections 1503.40 and 1512., to read as follows, with existing subsections of section 1503, to be renumbered accordingly:

1503.40 Peace Officer.
The term "Peace Officer" shall mean an Employee who is a sworn deputy sheriff officer in the Jackson County Sheriff's Office or park ranger in the the Parks + Rec Department, as the term "peace officer" is defined in section 590.010.(3), RSMo, and the term "park ranger" is used in section 64.335, RSMo.
