Body
WHEREAS, Jewish Family Services of Greater Kansas City began in 1901 as United Jewish Charities after the merger of five volunteer relief agencies formed to help the wave of immigrants from eastern Europe; and,

WHEREAS, in 1919 Jewish Family Services opened the Alfred Benjamin Dispensary to care for indigents who could not afford medical care and to provide a medical setting for Jewish physicians unable to secure residencies in any other Kansas City hospital; and,

WHEREAS, this early program eventually grew into the Menorah Medical Center; and,

WHEREAS, over its decades of service to the Kansas City community, Jewish Family Services added many specialized services, including programs for older adults in 1957, adoption and foster care services in 1964, family counseling services in 1976, adolescent services in 1986, a resettlement program for Soviet Jews in 1990, the JFS Chaplaincy program to meet spiritual needs in 2006, the Jewish Community Mental Health Coalition program in 2011, a food pantry in 2012, and in 2019, KesherKC, a holistic social services program; and,

WHEREAS, today Jewish Family Services provides a breadth of services to support and strengthen lives throughout Greater Kansas City, including creative solutions to meet the community's needs in response to the COVID-19 pandemic; and,

WHEREAS, Jewish Family Services provides essential human services for people facing challenges in everyday life or time of crisis, regardless of faith, age, culture, or lifestyle; and,
