RESOLUTION NO. 20571, December 7, 2020

Body
WHEREAS, the Legislature recognizes the threat that natural hazards pose to people and property within the Kansas City Metropolitan Area; and,

WHEREAS, Jackson County has participated in the preparation of a multi-jurisdictional local hazard mitigation plan, known as the 2020 Multi-Jurisdictional Hazard Mitigation Plan for Cass, Clay, Jackson, Platte, and Ray Counties, hereafter referred to as "the Plan," in accordance with the Disaster Mitigation Act of 2000; and,

WHEREAS, the Legislature recognizes that land use and other policies have a major impact on whether people and property are exposed to natural hazards and will endeavor to integrate the Plan into the County's comprehensive and strategic planning process; and,

WHEREAS, the adoption of the Plan by the County demonstrates its commitment to hazard mitigation and achieving the goals outlined in the Plan and affirms that the Plan will be updated no less than every five years; and,


WHEREAS, the final draft Plan prepared by the Mid-America Regional Council has been reviewed by the Missouri State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) and is expected to be approved by the U.S. Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA); now therefore,

BE IT RESOLVED by the County Legislature of Jackson County, Missouri, that Jackson County adopts the draft 2020 Regional Multi-Hazard Mitigation Plan as its Multi-Hazard Mitigation Plan and resolves to execute the actions in the Plan; and,

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Legislature be and hereby authorizes the County Executive to take any actions necessary in furtherance of the Plan's implementation.
