Body
WHEREAS, the University of Missouri Political Communication Institute's mission is to develop knowledge and promote greater understanding of the role of ethical and effective communication in fostering a vibrant participatory democracy and political process representative of and responsive to all citizens; and,
WHEREAS, Rianda Wenther, former intern to County Legislator Jalen Anderson, has been named a 2020 fellow at the Institute; and,
WHEREAS, Rianda will serve on a team that will research the 2020 election, including studying the Iowa caucus, which she will attend on February 3, 2020; and,
WHEREAS, Rianda is a resident of Blue Springs, Missouri, where she organized a "March for Our Lives" rally against gun violence while a student at Blue Springs High School; and,
WHEREAS, Rianda also advocates for efforts to fight poverty in our community; and,
WHEREAS, Rianda is currently a sophomore at the University of Missouri, pursuing a degree in political science; and,
WHEREAS, prior to serving as an intern for Legislator Anderson, Rianda worked on campaigns during the 2018 mid-term election cycle; and,
WHEREAS, through her work with the Institute, Rianda hopes to teach others about the importance of being active in local, state, and federal government; now therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED by the County Legislature of Jackson County, Missouri, that the Legislature hereby congratulates Rianda Wenther on the occasion of her selection to serve as a fellow to the University of Missouri Political Communication Institute and extends best wishes in all of her future endeavors.
