Body
WHEREAS, the Director of Parks + Rec and the Rock Island Project Manager have recommended the execution of a Trail Use Agreement with the Union Pacific Railroad Company relating to the Rock Island Railroad Corridor; and,
WHEREAS, this agreement is the final step toward the rail banking of the corridor; and,
WHEREAS, once the attached agreement is executed, it will be submitted to the U.S. Surface Transportation Board (STB), at which time the STB may issue a Notice of Interim Trail Use (NITU); and,
WHEREAS, once the NITU is issued, the Rock Island Rail Corridor will be removed from the national freight network and preserved for trail use, allowing the County to move forward with construction of the trail project; now therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED by the County Legislature of Jackson County, Missouri, that the County Executive be and hereby is authorized to execute the attached Trail Use Agreement with the Union Pacific Railroad Company relating to the Rock Island Rail Corridor...Enacted and Approved
Effective Date: This Resolution shall be effective immediately upon its passage by a majority of the Legislature.
