INTRODUCED BY                     Dan Tarwater III, Theresa Galvin, Jalen Anderson, Crystal Williams, Tony Miller, Scott Burnett, Ronald E. Finley, Charlie Franklin, and Jeanie Lauer, County Legislators

 

 

Body

 WHEREAS, Mary Riggs, Legislative Aide to Dan Tarwater III, retired December 31, 2018, after over 34 years of service to Jackson County; and,

 

WHEREAS, Mary started her career with Jackson County on April 16, 1984, as an Executive Assistant to County Executive Bill Waris; and,

 

WHEREAS, Mary then served as Legislative Aide to County Legislators Ed Growney and Mary Lou Smith, before settling in as Aide to Dan Tarwater on January 1, 1995; and,

 

WHEREAS, during her service to the County, Mary was known for her ability to step in to help on any task, always with a positive attitude and a smile; and,

 

WHEREAS, Mary, or “Little Mary” as she came to be known, particularly enjoyed her years working for her sweet and comical boss who was always dedicated to helping out his constituents, no matter what kind of issue they had; and,

WHEREAS, Mary always went the extra mile to assist those in need, whether they were matters involving the County or just people needing help; and,

 

WHEREAS, Mary’s co-workers, especially her good friend Silvia Rizzo, miss her sweet smile and weekly lunches; and,

 

WHEREAS, Mary enjoys playing bridge each week with her friends and volunteering with the St. James Soup Kitchen, Kansas City Hospice, Seton Center, and the Young Matrons; and,

 

WHEREAS, Mary particularly enjoys traveling with her family, having previously gone on trips to Luxembourg, Greece, Italy, France, England, Germany, Ireland, Singapore, Hawaii, Marco Island, Florida, and Steamboat, Colorado; and,

 

WHEREAS, Mary’s children, Krisie Smith, Kathy Begemann, Jim Riggs, and Patty Porter, her grandchildren, Katie, Patrick, Tricia, Matt, Jimmy, Rachel, Nicole, Alec, Danny, Ryan, and Ally, and great grandchildren, Emma, Jake, Lexi, Caroline, Coehn, Riggs, and Marjorie, all wish her much happiness in her retirement; now therefore,

 

BE IT RESOLVED by the County Legislature of Jackson County, Missouri, that the Legislature hereby congratulates Mary Riggs on the occasion of her retirement and extends best wishes on all of her future endeavors.

Effective Date:  This Resolution shall be effective immediately upon its passage by a majority of the Legislature.
