INTRODUCED BY Crystal Williams, County Legislator

Body
WHEREAS, Kansas City's Historic West Bottoms, which has the mission to promote and advocate for public and private improvements, will remember and focus on regional history and culture during its Fourth Annual West Bottoms Heritage Week to be held April 24 through May 5, 2018; and,

WHEREAS, the West Bottoms Heritage Week has expanded to become a twelve-day event highlighting the progress and potential of the West Bottoms and the Stockyards District, while recognizing firms and professionals who plan, design, and construct our community's infrastructure; and,

WHEREAS, this event will focus on the West Bottoms as an historical district and destination and will remember the area's role as a commercial-industrial district connecting the communities of the greater Kansas City metropolitan area; and,

WHEREAS, the West Bottoms' place in the Jackson County history and development is unique in that it began with trading among American Indians and the French; and,

WHEREAS, the West Bottoms area, originally identified and known as Kawsmouth, is centrally located and has been central to the growth and development of the entire region; and,

WHEREAS, the highlight of events scheduled for Heritage Week will include the public dedication of Confluence, a sculptural installation within the West Bottoms, followed by the Wettest Block Pig Roast on Friday, April 27; and,

WHEREAS, other events include the Stockyards Saturday Legends Dinner on April 28, 2018, at the Stockyards Brewing Co., featuring a steak dinner catered by the Golden Ox and Kansas City jazz and historical presentations, and the Kawsmouth Kitchens on Friday May 4, 2018, featuring s...
