A RESOLUTION supporting the construction of a law enforcement memorial in recognition of Kansas City area law enforcement officers who sacrificed their lives in the line of duty.

RESOLUTION NO. 19635, November 6, 2017

 

INTRODUCED BY Scott Burnett, County Legislator

 

 

Body

 WHEREAS, Kansas City area law enforcement officers have made the ultimate sacrifice of their lives in the course of protecting and serving the people of Kansas City, Missouri,  and surrounding cities and counties; and, 

 

WHEREAS, since 1866, more than 147 area law enforcement officers have given their lives while serving our citizens in the line of duty; and,

 

WHEREAS, survivors, family, friends, community members and the law enforcement community desire to have a place to visit, reflect, honor, and pay tribute to those officers; and,

 

WHEREAS, the Law Enforcement Memorial Committee is dedicated to constructing a suitable memorial in close proximity to the Kansas City Regional Police Academy; and,

 

WHEREAS, a memorial located at the Kansas City Regional Police Academy will serve as a reminder to cadets, and all who visit the campus, of the dedication of those fallen officers and their tremendous sacrifice to our community; and,

WHEREAS, this memorial will be a striking visual example of the proud tradition of the service these officers demonstrated, inspiring all who experience it; now therefore,

 

BE IT RESOLVED by the County Legislature of Jackson County, Missouri, that the Legislature hereby expresses its support for the construction of a memorial recognizing those law enforcement officers who have given their lives in the line of duty.

 

 

                                                               

 

Enacted and Approved

Effective Date:  This Resolution shall be effective immediately upon its passage by a majority of the Legislature.
