Body
WHEREAS, the Kansas City Metro Junior Golf Club, a non-profit organization formed to teach urban youth the game of golf, will recognize LPGA golfer Sadena Parks at a reception September 18, 2017, to be held at the Negro Leagues Museum; and,
WHEREAS, Sadena will be in Kansas City at the invitation of the Golf Club to promote and further junior golf programs within the Kansas City Public School District; and,
WHEREAS, Sadena, age 27, started playing golf at the age of nine, joining the Leisure Hour Junior Golf Program in Portland, Oregon, and later being accepted into the Junior Associate Golf Program at the Classic Club in Spanaway, Washington; and,
WHEREAS, after winning the Washington State High School Championship her sophomore and senior years, Sadena became the first African American golfer at the University of Washington; and,
WHEREAS, as an amateur, Sadena posted seventeen top-25 finishes and three top-10 results while at the University of Washington and shot the course record of 66 at the Washington National Golf Course in the 2011 NCAA Western Regional Championship; and,
WHEREAS, Sadena attended the LPGA qualifying school in 2012 and became the first African American to earn a tour card through the Symetra Tour, and the fifth African American to earn an LPGA Tour card; and,
WHEREAS, Sadena has two professional wins, the SEFCU Championship at Capital Hills and the New England Charity Classic; and,
WHEREAS, in 2016, Sadena ranked 111th in earnings playing in 18 events and posted a season best T11 finish at the LPGA Volvik Championship; and,
WHEREAS, Sadena credits her father with being the biggest influence and support of her golfing career; now therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED by the County Legislature of Jackson County, Missouri, that the Legislature hereby recognizes Sadena Parks for her contributions to professional golf and support of junior golf programs in the Kansas City Public School District.
Enacted and Approved
Effective Date: This Resolution shall be effective immediately upon its passage by a majority of the Legislature.
