A RESOLUTION recognizing Avis Lowe for her twenty years of service to Mothers Against Drunk Driving and congratulating her on the occasion of her retirement.

RESOLUTION NO. 19209, July 11, 2016

 

INTRODUCED Crystal Williams, Theresa Galvin, Garry Baker, Tony Miller, Scott Burnett, Alfred Jordan, Dennis Waits, Dan Tarwater III, and Greg Grounds, County Legislators

 

Body

 WHEREAS, Avis Lowe, a Victim Advocate for the Heartland Chapter of Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD), retired June 6, 2016; and,

 

WHEREAS, founded by a mother whose daughter was killed by a drunk driver, MADD is the nation’s largest nonprofit working to protect families from drunk driving, drugged driving, and underage drinking; and,

 

WHEREAS, Avis contacted MADD in 1995 after her son Rob was killed by a repeat drunk driving offender; and,

 

WHEREAS, Avis began volunteering for MADD in 1996 and, in 1997, completed MADD’s Victim Advocate Training Institute so she could begin working directly with victims of drunk driving; and,

 

WHEREAS, Avis eagerly accepted a position as a staff advocate for MADD in February 2001, making it her mission to help victims find their voice within a confusing and often frustrating criminal justice system; and,

 

WHEREAS, Avis is dedicated to giving guidance and support to the families and individuals she serves; and,

 

WHEREAS, Avis and her husband Guy have been married for 48 years and, in addition to their son Rob, they have two other sons, Chad and Travis, and one grandson, Dakota; and,

 

WHEREAS, Avis will continue to volunteer with MADD, but looks forward to moving to the lake with Guy to spend more time with their family; now therefore,

 

BE IT RESOLVED by the County Legislature of Jackson County, Missouri, that the Legislature hereby recognizes Avis Lowe for her service to Mothers Against Drunk Driving and extends best wishes for her future endeavors.

 

Enacted and Approved

Effective Date:  This Resolution shall be effective immediately upon its passage by a majority of the Legislature.
