RESOLUTION NO. 19166, June 6, 2016

INTRODUCED BY Scott Burnett, County Legislator

Body
WHEREAS, Healing House, Inc. of Kansas City, Missouri, is the recipient of the 2016 Recovery Support Outstanding Performer Award presented by the Missouri Department of Mental Health; and,

WHEREAS, Healing House, a non-profit, faith-based substance abuse recovery organization, works in the Kansas City metropolitan area to provide safe and stable homes, with opportunities for spiritual and personal growth, along with purposeful guidance and support, for men and women who are committed to overcoming their addiction and becoming responsible, productive, drug and alcohol free members of our community; and,

WHEREAS, today Healing House serves over 300 individuals per year providing homes for 152 family members and up to twenty-five children at any given time; and,

WHEREAS, Healing House is funded by COMBAT to provide residential beds for those referred by Drug Court and others who are undergoing inpatient drug treatment; and,

WHEREAS, Healing House is committed to long-term recovery relationships, empowering and equipping people to have purposeful lives, rebuilding families and communities, and restoring hope; and,

WHEREAS, as a former addict and alcoholic, Healing House's founder Bobbi Jo Reed, understood the many challenges recovering substance abusers face as they transition back into meaningful roles in society; and,

WHEREAS, Ms. Reed founded Healing House on the fundamental belief that the surest way to life-long recovery is through participation in a safe, spiritually-centered home environment focused on individual and group support in which opportunities to build and restore healthy relationships would be available; now therefore,
