Body
WHEREAS, Vanesa Rodriguez, a sophomore at William Chrisman High School, has been named the Missouri Youth of the Year by the Boys & Girls Clubs of America (BGCA); and,
WHEREAS, the Youth of the Year is a prestigious honor bestowed upon an exemplary young person in recognition of leadership, service, academic excellence, and dedication to living a healthy lifestyle; and,
WHEREAS, as Missouri Youth of the Year, Vanesa will serve as an ambassador for all teens in the state, will receive a $5,000.00 college scholarship from BGCA, and will go on to compete for the Regional Youth of the Year honor, ultimately vying for the national title; and,
WHEREAS, Vanesa is a member of the William Chrisman volleyball team and was recently recognized for her achievements with a nomination to the National Academy of Future Physicians; and,
WHEREAS, Vanesa hopes to be the first person in her family to graduate from college and to pursue a career in the medical field; and,
WHEREAS, as a member of BGCA, Vanesa has previously served as the Keystone Club vice president, a teen group dedicated to leadership and community service, and she is currently serving as the Keystone Club president; and,
WHEREAS, Vanesa frequently assists BGCA staff and serves as a mentor to younger Club members; and,
WHEREAS, Vanesa’s family is justifiably proud of her accomplishments; now therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED by the County Legislature of Jackson County, Missouri, that the Legislature hereby congratulates Vanesa Rodriguez of Independence, Missouri, on the occasion of being named as the Missouri Youth of the Year by the Boys and Girls Clubs of America and extends its best wishes for all of her future endeavors.

Effective Date: This Resolution shall be effective immediately upon its passage by a majority of the Legislature.
