RESOLUTION NO. 19150, May 16, 2016

INTRODUCED BY Tony Miller, County Legislator


Body
WHEREAS, the Oregon California Trail Association of Independence, Missouri, desires to donate to Jackson County a thirty-six inch bronze medallion by noted early 20th century American sculptor Avard Fairbanks; and,

WHEREAS, this medallion commemorates the perseverance of the pioneers who made the journey from Independence, Missouri to new settlements in the American west; and,

WHEREAS, this medallion will be installed on the existing Oregon Trail marker located at the Historic Truman Courthouse; and,

WHEREAS, the Legislature, under article II, section 16 (21) of the Jackson County Charter, is empowered to acquire property for County purposes, and the Director of Finance and Purchasing recommends accepting the said donation; now therefore,

BE IT RESOLVED by the County Legislature of Jackson County, Missouri, that the Director of Finance and Purchasing be authorized to accept the donation of a bronze medallion on behalf of Jackson County; and,

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Director is authorized to execute any and all documents necessary to give effect to the intent of this Resolution.

Effective Date: This Resolution shall be effective immediately upon its passage by a majority of the Legislature.
