RESOLUTION NO. 19137, May 2, 2016

 

INTRODUCED BY Dennis Waits, County Legislator

 

 

Body

 WHEREAS, in 2015, the Independence Ethnic Council and the Local Investment Commission (LINC) began the International Day of the Child, to be celebrated the first Saturday each May; and,

 

WHEREAS, the International Day of the Child is an opportunity to celebrate the cultures and traditions of the children in our community; and,

 

WHEREAS, on May 7, 2016, our area will celebrate the Second Annual International Day of the Child at Hill Park, 2201 S. Maywood Street, Independence, Missouri, from 11 am to 4 pm; and,

 

WHEREAS, this event will honor and recognize our multicultural community of children with dance, music, food, and play; and,

 

WHEREAS, there are many cultures represented in Jackson County, including families from El Salvador, Guatemala, Mexico, Samoa, Tonga, Honduras, and many others; and,

 

WHEREAS, this event will celebrate our family values and embrace the diversity of our thriving, family-friendly community; and,

 

WHEREAS, the citizens of Jackson County are encouraged to attend and support this event in celebration of the children in our community; now therefore,

 

BE IT RESOLVED by the County Legislature of Jackson County, Missouri, that the Legislature hereby proclaims Saturday, May 7, 2016, as the International Day of the Child in Jackson County, Missouri, and calls upon the people of Jackson County to observe this day by helping our children adopt healthy, positive lifestyles, and become all that they can be in our community.

 

Enacted and Approved

Effective Date:  This Resolution shall be effective immediately upon its passage by a majority of the Legislature.
