INTRODUCED BY Crystal Williams, County Legislator

Body
WHEREAS, Kansas City's Historic West Bottoms, which has the mission to promote and advocate for public and private improvements, will remember and focus on regional history and culture during its Second Annual West Bottoms Heritage Week to be held April 24 through April 29, 2016; and,

WHEREAS, the West Bottoms Heritage Week will highlight the progress and potential of the West Bottoms, while recognizing firms and professionals who plan, design, and construct our community's infrastructure; and,

WHEREAS, this event will focus on the West Bottoms as an historical district and destination and will remember the area's role as a commercial-industrial district connecting the communities of the greater Kansas City metropolitan area; and,

WHEREAS, the West Bottoms' place in the Jackson County history and development is unique in that it began with trading among American Indians and the French; and,

WHEREAS, the West Bottoms area, originally identified and known as Kawsmouth, is centrally located and has been central to the growth and development of the entire region; and,

WHEREAS, the Second Annual Heritage Week events will be presented in collaboration with many partners, including the Kansas City Public Library, VisitKC, the Mid-America Regional Council, the Urban Core Group, the City of Kansas City, Missouri, Jackson County, Missouri, and the Unified Government of Wyandotte County; and,

WHEREAS, the events scheduled for Heritage Week will include historical re-enactments, events in the Stockyard's District, an after-hours business reception, and a dinner and dancing event featuring Kansas City Jazz; now th...
