Body

 WHEREAS, Lincoln College Preparatory Academy, a school in the Kansas City Public School District, is celebrating its 150th Anniversary Sesquicentennial Celebration with a series of events to be held August 5 - 8, 2015; and,

 

WHEREAS, the Sesquicentennial Celebration will include the unveiling of a National Historic Register Marker, a historic bus tour of Lincoln and the Kansas City community, a dinner and gala, and a Sunday memorial service at the Centennial United Methodist Church; and,

 

WHEREAS, Lincoln College Preparatory Academy, formerly Lincoln High School, is the first “historically black school” in Kansas City, Missouri with a rich history steeped in academic achievement, leadership, and service to the community; and,

 

WHEREAS, for Lincoln High School’s first ninety years it was the heartbeat of the African American community, connecting neighborhoods, churches, community organizations, and the business community; and,

 

WHEREAS, for its most recent sixty years, Lincoln has continued to be a mecca for quality education serving multiracial, multiethnic, and multinational children enrolled with the Kansas City Public Schools; and,

 

WHEREAS, in 2014, in recognition of its outstanding academic achievement, the U.S. Department of Education named Lincoln College Preparatory Academy a National Blue Ribbon School and the State of Missouri named it a Gold Star School; and,

 

WHEREAS, Lincoln College Preparatory Academy is recognized by the U.S. News and World Report as the top public high school in Missouri; now therefore,

 

BE IT RESOLVED by the County Legislature of Jackson County, Missouri, that the Legislature hereby congratulates Lincoln College Preparatory Academy upon the occasion of its Sesquicentennial Celebration and for its achievements and academic excellence.

Effective Date:  This Resolution shall be effective immediately upon its passage by a majority of the Legislature.
