Theresa Galvin, County Legislators

 

 

Body

 WHEREAS, the Metropolitan Spiritual Churches of Christ, Inc., founded in 1925 by Bishop William Frank Taylor and Elder Leviticus Lee Boswell, will celebrate its 90th Church Congress on July 6 - 10, 2015, at the Mother Church, Metropolitan Spiritual Church of Christ of Kansas City, Missouri; and,

 

WHEREAS, Reverend Taylor was ordained the First Bishop and National President of the Metropolitan Spiritual Churches of Christ, Inc., at a candlelight service held before one thousand seven hundred church members; and,

 

WHEREAS, the membership of the Church continued to flourish under Bishop Taylor and Elder Boswell’s leadership, increasing from six churches to twenty-four; and,

 

WHEREAS, upon Bishop Taylor’s illness, the position of Second National President of the Metropolitan Spiritual Churches transitioned in 1942 to Reverend C.H. “Preacher” Cobbs, the Pastor and Founder of the First Church of Deliverance in Chicago, Illinois; and,

 

WHEREAS, Reverend Cobbs assisted the church in attaining international status by bringing in churches from Monrovia Liberia, West Africa; and,

 

WHEREAS, upon Reverend Cobbs’s death on June 28, 1979, other leaders to follow included Reverend Lucretia L. Smith, Dr. I Logan Kearse, and Archbishop A.L. Posey; and,

 

WHEREAS, the Metropolitan Spiritual Churches of Christ, Inc., currently celebrates its 90th year under the leadership of International Presiding Prelate, Bishop James D. Tindall, Sr., Coadjutor, Bishop Otto T. Houston II, and Vice-Coadjutor, Bishop James E. Curry, Jr.; now therefore,

 

 

BE IT RESOLVED by the County Legislature of Jackson County, Missouri, that the Legislature hereby congratulates the Metropolitan Spiritual Churches of Christ, Inc., on the occasion of its 90th Anniversary Church Congress and extends sincere best wishes for continued success in the future.

Effective Date:  This Resolution shall be effective immediately upon its passage by a majority of the Legislature.
