Body
WHEREAS, Benjamin Gruenbaum, a student at Lee's Summit North High School in the Lee's Summit R-7 School District, recently took first-place in Humorous Interpretation at the National Speech and Debate Tournament, held at the Overland Park Convention Center in June 2014; and,

WHEREAS, at the national competition, Benjamin performed a piece entitled "Black Fedora," competing against 245 other students entered in the Humorous Interpretation Event; and,

WHEREAS, Benjamin earned his title by advancing through 13 rounds of competition; and,

WHEREAS, Benjamin has been an active member of the Lee's Summit North Speech and Debate program through all four years of high school, playing the featured role of "Donkey" in the musical Shrek, and receiving a nomination for the prestigious Blue Star Award as Best Actor in a Featured Role; and,

WHEREAS, Benjamin is a two-time state and national qualifier for Humorous Interpretation; and,

WHEREAS, Benjamin recently competed in the local 48 Hour Film Festival and is active in Parkour (obstacle course training) and gymnastics; and,

WHEREAS, Benjamin's parents, Christy and Marvin Gruenbaum and his older brother Joseph, are justifiably proud of their son and brother; now therefore,

BE IT RESOLVED by the County Legislature of Jackson County, Missouri, that the Legislature hereby congratulates Benjamin Gruenbaum upon the occasion of winning a national championship title for Humorous Interpretation at the National Speech and Debate Tournament, and extends best wishes to him in all of his future endeavors.
