Body
WHEREAS, former Sheriff's Office employee Melody L. Sloan has filed a charge of employment discrimination with the Missouri Commission on Human Rights in which she has alleged that certain conduct and/or conditions she experienced during her employment violated her right to be free from discrimination in the workplace; and,
WHEREAS, although the Sheriff's Office denies any discrimination, after a thorough investigation and negotiations, the County Counselor and the Sheriff's special counsel recommend a settlement in the amount of $95,000.00 to be paid to Ms. Sloan and her attorney R. Mark Nasteff, Jr.; and,
WHEREAS, the proposed settlement will limit the County's financial obligation in this matter and is in the best interests of the health, safety, and welfare of the citizens of Jackson County; and,
WHEREAS, an appropriation is necessary to place the needed funds in the appropriate spending account; now therefore,
BE IT ORDAINED by the County Legislature of Jackson County, Missouri, that the following appropriation be made from the undesignated fund balance of the 2014 Special Road and Bridge Fund:
