Body
WHEREAS, throughout our history, grandparents have played an important role in the lives of our families, providing support and guidance to generations; and,
WHEREAS, grandparents hold a special place in our homes and communities, helping to shape our heritage and our future; and,
WHEREAS, over seven million grandparents in the United States are caring for their grandchildren and other young relatives; and,
WHEREAS, these caregivers make a generous contribution to their families and their communities by bringing stability and comfort to the lives of children; and,
WHEREAS, the number of individuals in our country 65 years of age or older will increase from 40 million to 70 million during the next two decades; and,
WHEREAS, our aging population throughout Missouri gives us an opportunity to respond to their needs with due urgency by investing in infrastructure and jobs that allow all seniors in our community to age with dignity; and,
WHEREAS, September 7, 2014, is National Grandparents Day and, as such, presents the opportunity to show our profound appreciation and respect for the role our elders play in our lives; now therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED by the County Legislature of Jackson County, Missouri, that the Legislature hereby recognizes the role of grandparents in our families and supports the development of programs and policies that create a strong homecare workforce and accessible quality in-home care.
Enacted and Approved
Effective Date: This Resolution shall be effective immediately upon its passage by a majority of the Legislature.
